Wichita State associate head coach Elizabeth Economon sets fans up for fall softball. The Shockers will play McLennan Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday and Emporia State at 3 p.m. Sunday. We talk about blending in 14 newcomers, nine of them transfers. We discuss how returners such as Jodie Epperson and Brookelyn Livanec can progress in their second season as Shockers and the latest additions from Wichita State’s connection to McLennan. Economon also dives into the advantages of the new indoor practice facility and the three All-American graduate assistants who are back to help coach the Shockers.

Basketball season is weeks away and women’s team newcomers Bella Belong, Sophie Benharouga and Karys Washington join the podcast in advance of Shocker Madness on Oct. 4. We discuss their favorite pro basketball players, their musical tastes and book and movie recommendations. Bella describes her goal of opening an orphanage in Cameroon, while Karys’ career plan is becoming an orthodontist. Sophie reveals the story behind her uniform number, which is one rarely found on the basketball court. Belong is a 6-3 junior forward from Cameroon and South Plains College. Benharouga is a 6-2 forward from France and Seattle University. Washington earned All-Jayhawk Conference honors at Coffeyville Community Conference last season. She is from Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Wichita State opens volleyball season on Friday and assistant coaches Katie Zimmerman and Ashleigh Houlton join us to preview the season. We talk about how senior leadership in July got things started in a good way and why they think their freshmen are not “drill-killers.” We also discuss Brooklyn Leggett’s journey from NCAA Division II to preseason all-conference. We dive into the setting position, why the littles are such a strong group this season and their favorite moments from the 2024 post-season. The Shockers play Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Friday in the Shocker Volleyball Classic. WSU plays Arkansas at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
