Diversity Week is in partnership with several offices and student organizations and offers programs and experiences that build an inclusive culture amongst the student body at Wichita State University. This year's theme is A Different World: Learn from Others and Value Everyone (L.O.V.E.). Sign number 9: Wichita State to host USD 259 School Board Candidates for forum Wichita State University (WSU) has partnered up with The Wichita Beacon, Loud Light and the League of Women Voters to host a forum with USD 259 School Board candidates on Wednesday, October 25th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in Room 211 of Hubbard Hall on the Wichita State University Main Campus. All USD 259 candidates have been invited to the forum to answer questions taken from WSU students and The Wichita Beacon readers. The forum will provide an opportunity for each candidate to answer a series of questions. Each candidate will be allowed 90 seconds for their answer. Content for the question has come from WSU students as well as from Beacon readers who were invited to submit questions in September. The forum will be moderated by Neal Allen from the Wichita State University, Political Science Department and a Wichita State student elected to represent student voices. Open to the public. Sign number 26: Alternative Spring Break 2024 Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 Alternative Spring Break trip in Boulder Creek, California from March 10 to 17. The trip will be spent volunteering as camp counselors at Camp Campbell, Outdoor Science School. The California Outdoor Science Association is sponsored by the California Department of Education. WSU volunteers will serve as camp counselors through the week and assist with the Outdoor School's programming. Volunteers will receive a day long training on the first day of the trip, Monday. The camp takes place from Tuesday-Friday. Activities during the week may include but are not limited to attending field studies with students in the redwood forest, conducting river studies and daily nature hikes traveling around to various communities surrounding the camp. One evening campers will participate in a field study which includes a night walk, emphasizing the nocturnal animal life, nighttime sensory awareness, and astronomy. On Saturday WSU volunteers will have a tour day to spend touring San Francisco, will spend the night in the city and depart the following Sunday to fly back to Wichita. The cost of the trip is $200 per student. The cost includes transportation (airfare, housing, meals, and excursions).
