Local Small Businesses to be Recognized for Achievements, WSU Community is Invited to Attend Ceremony.

Every year, regional Kansas Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) choose three clients that exemplify success as an Existing, Emerging, or Exporting (E3) Small Business. The goal is to highlight both the impact small businesses have in our Kansas communities and economy. On Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 at 4:00 p.m., the Kansas SBDC at WSU will recognize their E3 Awardees along with local SBIR Awardees in a brief ceremony followed by a reception. Please join us as we celebrate these standout entrepreneurs. This awards ceremony is hosted in conjunction with the Build a Better Business Conference and Shop to Celebrate Pop-up Market at the WSU Hughes Metropolitan Complex. Shocker Baseball Sidewalk Sale

If you’re attending any Shocker Baseball games against Tulane Friday, April 26-28, swing by the Shocker Store’s Shocker Baseball Sidewalk Sale at the Eck Stadium store and enjoy 30% off select Shocker baseball merchandise. Store is open one hour prior to first pitch through the 7th inning.

Bark in the Park Sale

Shocker Store Pop-Up Shop at WSU West

The Shocker Store is headed to WSU West for a Pop-Up Shop. On Wednesday, April 24 from 4-7 p.m. the Shocker Store will be set up in the main lobby of WSU West so guests can shop for some great Shocker gear and enter to win some fabulous Shocker prizes.

Rie Bloomfield Organ Series

See Rie Bloomfield in the Organ Series for the 2023-2024 season, playing the Marcussen organ in Wiedemann Hall Wednesdays, as part of the Annual Organ POPS Concert series. Hosted in Wiedemann with Lynne Davis. Wednesday, May 1st at 5:15 p.m. with Free Admission!

Attend the 2024 FYRE in STEM Research Showcase.

Join us for the Shocker Swag Swap, hosted by the Office of First-Year Programs. A Quarter of a Century Conserving WSU’s Outdoor Sculpture Collection

Visit the Ulrich Museum Thursday, April 25 for an evening with Marianne Marti of Russell-Marti Conservation Services. Marti is a sculpture conservator with an expertise in outdoor public art. For more than 25 years, she has performed biannual maintenance treatments and major conservation work on sculptures at WSU. Reception at 5:30 p.m. in the upstairs Ulrich Gallery Lobby, with the program following at 6 p.m. in McKnight Art Center, Room 210. Everyone is welcome to attend this free talk.

Creative Writing MFA Graduates will read thier work

Come celebrate the 2024 graduates of the MFA Program in Creative Writing as they share selections from their literary works. The event takes place on Saturday, April 27. Reception at 2 p.m., with the reading starting at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.

The Building a Better Business Conference will be filled with actionable strategies, insights, and networking opportunities, all aimed at propelling existing businesses forward. Student position in HPS department

The Human Performance Studies department is looking for a WSU student who is familiar with maintaining and updating websites and helping with marketing materials. They will also help assist the administrative specialist with other projects within the HPS department. The position will be 20 hours per pay period. The position will be 20 hours per pay period. Do you need a serotonin boost and a mental break from studying? Still need a puppy fix after Bark in the Park? SAC is hosting a photo gallery for Shockers to show off their pets. Join us in the RSC Shocker Store to admire the Shocker pets under categories: Best Dressed, Caught in the Act, Best Buds and Funniest Pet. This is a de-stress fest event from Monday, April 29th through Thursday, May 2nd.

Yoga on the Lawn

Take a Break during De-stress fest and relax your mind and body with a free yoga session with YMCA instructors Tuesday, April 30 starting at 8 a.m. on the Hubbard East Lawn. Mats available while supplies last. Inclement weather location: Steve Clark YMCA Studio B.

Attend College of Engineering Open House event at Charles Koch Arena

The College of Engineering at WSU invites all to attend its annual Engineering Open House at Charles Koch Arena on Friday, May 3. Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., senior engineering and computing students will be presenting prototype solutions throughout the concourse. From the end of student presentations until 7 p.m., there will be hors d'oeuvres and refreshments served, as well as an awards ceremony in the South Entrance area of the arena. Support first-year students in the Koch Innovation Challenge

The College of Engineering at WSU invites all to attend the Koch Innovation Challenge (KIC) in the Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom, on Friday, May 3. The KIC is an innovation competition that emphasizes multidisciplinary teamwork and entrepreneurship for first-year students in the Shocker Design Experience program. Between 9 and 11 a.m., 35 teams of students will be presenting elevator pitches to a panel of faculty and industry judges. At 11:15 a.m. there will be an awards ceremony, and the winning team will advance to a national elevator pitch competition. Visit wichita.edu/kic for more information.

Holi: Festival of Colors

Come get colorful and messy. Join AHINSA, ODI and Cultural Association of India to celebrate Holi: A Festival of Colors. Free to students, $5 for community members. The event will be on the east lawn of Hubbard Hall on Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A light snack will be provided while it lasts.

End of the Year Block Party – Groove into Summer

Groove into Summer at the End of the Year Block Party. On Thursday, April 25, join SEAL on the RSC North Patio from 4-6 p.m. for T-shirts, yard games, free food, snow cones and more.

School of Performing Arts presents Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre

Shows of Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre featuring guest choreographer Darrel Grand Moultrie are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27 and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at in Wilner Auditorium. Philosophy 350: Ancient Chinese Philosophy

Come and join me in studying the major philosophical schools of Chinese thought that were developed centuries before the founding of the Qin Dynasty which was the first centralized bureaucratic empire. Philosophical schools developed in this period are the foundations of Chinese civilization. We will study these texts not only in terms of what they say but also to understand the ways they are used by people in the Chinese-speaking world and the kinds of lives they engender. Philosophy 350: Ancient Chinese Philosophy will be offered for Fall 2024 and will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:45. The instructor will be Xiufen Lu. InterFest Spring 2024 Vendors Orientation

Participants of InterFest Spring 2024 MUST attend a mandatory vendors meeting. Non-participating organizations are also welcome to join and explore opportunities to get involved. Philosophy 336: Metaphysics

Philosophy 336 is a class on Metaphysics where we'll be thinking about things and persons and free will and stuff! We'll be asking questions like, "Do any of us have free will?" and wondering if animals think, "I'm definitely a free person!" Shocker Softball Season Schedule

Here is the 2024 Shocker Softball Schedule. The Shockers take on UTSA at home from March 22 to March 24. Then on March 26 the Shockers play Oklahoma at home. From March 28 to March 30 the Shockers will travel to Charlotte to play Charlotte University. On April 5 to April 7 the Shockers will play against Tulsa right here in Wichita. Then from April 12 to April 14 the Shockers will play against South Florida in Florida. On April 17 the Shockers will travel back to Wichita to host Oklahoma State. The following weekend, April 19 through April 21, the Shockers will host UAB for an exciting AAC match up. The final away series for the Shockers will be April 26 to April 28 against North Texas. The Shockers will close out the season at home on May 3 through May 5 against Memphis.
