Watermelon Bust is a competition between all the sororities and fraternities on campus at WSU. Saturday, September 28th at noon to 4:00 P.M. at the WSU throwing fields next to the Charles Koch Arena. $10 per person, $50 per team. All proceeds go Feeding America and the Kansas Food Bank. They battle it out against each other to win our Watermelon Bust trophy and have bragging rights for the year. It's the largest philanthropy event of the year for Lambda Chi Alpha and a perfect representation of how impactful one idea and multiple college students can be for the community surrounding them. This Great Plains Model United Nations Conference allows you to take on the role of diplomats from a foreign country in a simulation of UN committee meetings. This conference allows you to hone your skills in research, writing, public speaking, and negotiation. The Conference is on Friday, October 4th, 12:30 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Saturday, October 5th, 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. The Conference will be held in Woolsey Hall, on WSU Campus. Come and join the Community Service Board volunteering at the United Way GIV Warehouse. The United Way Give Items of Value (GIV) Program accepts donated items from companies and offers them at no charge to nonprofits throughout the state. The United Way GIV program distributes $400,000 to $1 million worth of donated items each year to more than 100 area nonprofits (including agencies not funded by United Way). GIV partners with Good 360 to obtain donated products from national retailers. Volunteers will meet at the GIV Warehouse to sort and organize items so that they may be given to local nonprofits. Saturday, September 28th at 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at River Vista Boathouse on 150 N McLean Boulevard, Wichita, Kansas. The Class Races will start off this event with a competition between the Freshmen and Seniors battling it out for victory. Volunteers will assist with a neighborhood clean-up sponsored by the City of Wichita and will provide residents with an opportunity to clean-up debris and keep the neighborhood clean for residents of the community. WSU School of Performing Art's Jo Zakas Musical Theatre Incubator Program is thrilled to present a workshop production of Express, an original new musical by Wichita native Arri Lawton Simon and his writing partner Janine McGuire. The production will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, with performances at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the Welsbacher Theatre in the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th and Oliver, Entrance F. The Rie Bloomfield Organ Series welcomes its first Distinguished Guest Artist, Jens Korndörfer, to perform on Tuesday, September 17th at 7:30 p.m. in Wiedemann Hall. Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) and Ambassadors for Diversity and Inclusion (ADI) are coming together to host Hispanic Heritage Celebration with local performances and catering. Join the “Nuestra Cultura” celebration from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, starting in the CAC Theatre on campus. Admission is free for WSU students; $5 for staff, faculty and students outside of Wichita State; and $10 for community members. Performers consist of WSU students and groups from all over Wichita, and catering comes from small businesses around town.
