Philosophy 315, Late Modern Philosophy, will be offered this Spring. There is also an Honors section. This class will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Some of the topics covered will include: the Scientific Revolution, perception, human nature, and rationalism. Some of the philosophers covered will include: Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emilie du Chatelet, and Immanuel Kant.
Philosophy 215, Intro to Ethics of Big Data and AI, will be offered this Spring. The class will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m.to 1:45 p.m. This is an entry level course for non-professionals. Some of the topics covered will include: algorithmic bias, automated hiring, deep fakes, medical avatars, and privacy.
Philosophy 355, Minds and Machines, will be offered this Spring. Minds and Machines is cross listed with the Honors College as HNRS 305J. This class will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15p.m.. Some of the topics covered include: conceiving of intelligent machines, building intelligent machines, and recognizing other-than-human intelligence.

The Philosophy Department will be offering two courses in AI this Spring. The first course is PHIL 215, Intro to Ethics of Big Data and AI. Some topics include: mindreading implants, data scraping, and algorithmic bias. The second course is PHIL 355 Minds and Machines. Some topics include: conceiving of intelligent machinery, building intelligent machinery, and recognizing other-than-human intelligence. Dr. Pat Bondy will be teaching this class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m.to 10:45 a.m. CRN 26349. Some of the questions that will be explored in the PHIL 335 Theory of Knowledge class include: What is knowledge? When are beliefs well justified? In what ways are knowledge and truth valuable? How does knowledge transfer via testimony work? How should we respond to disagreement? What injustices are there that relate to our capacity to have and transmit knowledge? Lies and BS. What kinds are there? Can these pose a threat to our information economy?
