Trunk or Treat

Get into the Halloween spirit and meet Shockers and campus partners at the annual Trunk or Treat, a fun and Shocker-alternative to traditional trick or treating, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at the John Bardo Center parking lot. Come enjoy candy, game, crafts, snow cones, popcorn, and much more at this year's Trunk or Treat. Costumes are encouraged and WSU students are free to attend.

Book Swap and Craft Hour

Take a break, grab a book, and get creative. Join us on the main floor of the RSC from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16 for the Civic Engagement Book Swap and Craft Hour — a cozy pop-up where you can exchange gently loved books, make your own bookmarks, and connect with fellow students over your favorite reads. Whether you’re into novels, memoirs, or graphic novels, there’s something for everyone. All supplies are provided, and all readers are welcome. The Purple Mile Annual Domestic Violence Memorial and Awareness Walk and Social Service Fair is Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. on the WSU Campus, North side of RSC. For our 10th anniversary, join us in remembering those impacted by dating/domestic violence in our community over the last decade, learn about resources, and connect with others over light refreshments and art. For those who wish to participate, a one mile walk on campus follows this year's guest speakers. Join us afterward at Social Tap Drinkery in Braeburn Square. Social Tap is donating 5% of their proceeds to Wichita Family Crisis Center and Harbor House. This event is hosted by the Midwest Criminal Justice Institute, WSU HOPE Services, Wichita Family Crisis Center, and Harbor House.

Join the Community Service Board volunteering with Wichita Clean Streams by volunteering for a morning of clean-up around the areas around the Arkansas and Little Arkansas River. Healing History

Dr. Karlos K. Hill guides participants through a transformative approach to history — one rooted not in division or trauma alone, but in healing, deep relational understanding, and the wisdom of cooperation that has defined humanity for millions of years. Using the tragic legacy of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre as both a site of wounding and possibility, Dr. Hill illuminates “Healing History,” a revolutionary framework that merges evolutionary science, the wisdom of Ubuntu, and the lived experience of Greenwood’s descendants to foster real-world dialogue, healing, and justice. Textron Aviation Executive Maggie Topping Named Executive-in-Residence at the Barton School

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University is thrilled to announce Maggie Topping as its Fall 2025 Executive-in-Residence. Topping, senior vice president, Human Resources and Communications at Textron Aviation, will bring her extensive expertise to enrich the school’s academic and professional environment. As Executive-in-Residence, Topping will participate in mentoring sessions, deliver guest lectures, and collaborate with Barton School leadership on program and curriculum innovations. She will also lead a keynote fireside chat titled “Driving Innovation Forward: Textron Aviation’s Balanced Approach to AI, Talent, and the Transformation of Work” alongside Luke Pankey, Chief Information Officer at Textron Aviation. Free Python Workshops by the School of Computing

Food for Fines is back. From Monday, Oct. 6 through Friday, Oct. 10, you can reduce or clear your parking citations by donating non-perishable food or personal hygiene items. All donations will directly support the Shocker Support Locker, which provides food, clothing, and other essentials to Wichita State students, faculty, and staff. This is a great opportunity to give back to the Shocker community while taking care of your parking citations. Donations can be dropped off at Student Engagement and Belonging in RSC 216 or at the Parking Services building. England-Based and Global Communications Expert Lynda Jackson Named Fall 2025 Executive-in-Residence at Barton School

Lynda Jackson, global communications strategist, organizational psychologist and speechwriter, and the Barton School of Business fall 2025 J. Robert Young Executive-in-Residence, will deliver a keynote presentation as part of the James Schwartz Distinguished Speaker Series. Her presentation, “Leading with Impact: The Power of Communication to Connect, Inspire, and Transform,” will highlight how leaders can harness communication to drive change, inspire teams and transform organizations. The keynote event is at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 in 110 Woolsey Hall, Frank A. Boettger Auditorium. Doors open at 9 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. NIAR announces advanced manufacturing program to celebrate Manufacturing Day

Wichita State University’s National Institute of Aviation Research (NIAR) will hold an official Manufacturing Day event on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the National Center for Aviation Training. Aimed at educating the manufacturing industry and community leaders, NIAR’s Manufacturing Day will feature the latest advancements in automated metrology, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing, beginning with a keynote address from Eric Hein, NIAR director of strategy and product development. Formerly vice president of defense programs at Spirit AeroSystems, Hein now leads NIAR’s long-term strategic planning and guide product development efforts. The event is free to attend and includes a half day of programming with optional lunch and tours of NCAT facilities including NIAR’s Emerging Technologies Lab and WSU Tech’s Robotics/START Center Lab, CNC Lab/Machine Shop and Welding Shop. It is open to university and high school students.
