Wichita State Softball plays for a regular-season conference championship this weekend and we're getting the series started with a tailgate in the outfield for students on Thursday, April 30. First pitch is set for 6pm at Wilkins Stadium. The tailgate event starts at 5pm when gates open. Led by the community-based recovery organization, The Phoenix-Wichita, these meetings will provide a space for grounding meditation and connection with other students in recovery. The first meeting for Spring 2026 will be Tuesday, Feb. 17. No sign-up is required and anyone seeking a recovery space is welcome to join as needed. Welcomefest takes place during the first four weeks of the fall and spring semesters and features dozens of activities. Popular programs awaiting new and returning Shockers include Winter Welcome, the Involvement Fair and much more. Hosted by various student groups and campus departments, most events are free and give all students a chance to get acquainted with each other, learn their way around campus and find ways to connect with the community. The first covered work in the Art Matters Adopt-a-Sculpture campaign will be unveiled at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 29 in honor of donor Peri Widener, who has adopted Joan Miró's Personnages Oiseaux, the artist's largest U.S. work and only glass mosaic, famously located on the facade of the Ulrich. Gather at the entrance of the Ulrich at 3 p.m. for the unveiling.
Come Support Your Lady Shocker Softball Team with SE and B at the Student Tailgate. Student Engagement and Belonging and Student Government Association are partnering with Shocker Athletics to host a student tailgate on for the Softball game on Thursday, April 30 at 5:00 PM at the C. Howard Wilkins Softball Complex. Students must gain a ticket to the game to be able to partake in the tailgate. The tailgate will take place in the outfield of the stadium. The Shocker Softball team will play Memphis as they kick off Senior weekend. Doors open at 5PM, game starts at6PM.

The College of Engineering invites all to attend its annual Engineering Open House from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 8 in the John Bardo Center. Wichita State University's choirs and orchestra present Still We Sing: Reflections on Resilience and Humanity at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in Miller Concert Hall, Duerksen Fine Arts Center. This inspiring program explores themes of hope, compassion and shared humanity through three powerful works. Linda Tutas Haugen's Anne Frank: A Living Voice brings Anne Frank's words to life with intimate and expressive choral writing. Johannes Brahms' Alto Rhapsody, featuring WSU lecturer of voice Samantha Balboa, offers a profound reflection on isolation and renewal. The concert concludes with selections from Craig Hella Johnson's Considering Matthew Shepard, a moving tribute that calls audiences to empathy and understanding. Performing ensembles include Concert Chorale, Wu Choir, Shocker Choir and the Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Katelyn H. Peterson and Ryan Beeken.
