On Wednesday, September 12th, from 5 – 8 P.M., join us in serving a meal at The Lord’s Diner! Pre-registration is required at wichita.edu/csbvolunteer.
On Saturday, September 15th, from 9 – 11 A.M., join us in hanging out, playing games, and sharing conversation with the senior citizens at Larksfield Place! Pre-registration is required at wichita.edu/csbvolunteer.
On Monday, September 17th, from 4 – 6:30 P.M., join us in helping the youth in our community by providing homework assistance in a variety of subjects at the Boys & Girls Club! No experience is required. Pre-registration is required at wichita.edu/csbvolunteer.
McNair Scholars Program is looking for a Writing Tutor/Student Assistant. Apply through WSU’s Handshake or come by the office located in Grace Wilkie Annex Rm 173.
In October, the Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes will be adding Fresh Mex to its menu. Soon, you will be able to enjoy traditional Mexican cuisine including freshly made tacos, burritos, sanchos and more! Our existing menu will remain intact as well with all of your sports grill style favorites. Fresh Mex will be in addition to our regular menu and be made available Monday – Friday.
Stop by the Rhatigan Student Center every Wednesday for the live music series, RSC Unplugged. RSC Unplugged for Wednesday, September 12 features Patz & Laura from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the RSC’s Starbucks Lounge. Grab a cup of coffee and relax with some great music!
The Eastern European Travel Seminar Information Session will be held on Friday, September 14th from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the RSC room 203. Come to learn about this 10 day study abroad opportunity offered May 2019. Free Pizza will be provided to students in attendance.

Join the Student Government Association and the Counseling and Testing Center for Suicide Prevention Week 2018 on #WSUWeSupportU day. Hear stories of hope and resilience from WSU students. Receive training on suicide prevention, with special guest Terri Moses, Wichita Public Schools Director of Safety Services. Wear your #WSUWeSupportU suspender T-shirts for a group photo showing your support of those who struggle with suicidal thoughts. Free suspender T-shirts for those who attend!
In the “Where Can I Find Primary Sources?” workshop, discover library databases and open websites for various types of primary sources, including diaries, company records, photographs, and maps in this very helpful workshop. This workshop will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. September 28 in RM 217, Ablah Library.
In the “How Do I Write Papers In APA Style?” workshop, identify strategies to avoid plagiarism, and learn and practice using the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition style to write and format research papers and citation lists. This workshop will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. September 26 in RM 217, Ablah Library.
In the “How Do I Go Beyond ‘Basic Search?'” workshop, go beyond the basic search box with advanced search techniques like proximity searching, setting filters and limits, and using wildcards. This workshop will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. September 19 in RM 217 Ablah Library.
Come to the Engineering & I.T. Career Fair, Wednesday, September 12 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to meet with employers looking to hire for co-op, internship, and full-time positions. Check in at RSC 221. You can also get your resume reviewed and have a mock interview with an employer on September 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in RSC 261 to prepare for the career fair.
Gender Diversity Training will cover de-mystifying the transitioning process, challenges posed here at WSU, myths, misconceptions and language. The goal is to clarify the understanding of issues related to gender minority/transgender people. 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25 in Rhatigan Student Center 266. Shockers After Dark Friday, September 14 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. RSC First Floor and Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes Student Affairs invites students, faculty and staff to a new event Shockers After Dark. Come by the Rhatigan Student Center (RSC) for 3 hours of outrageous FREE fun! Activities include a tarot card reader, a poker tournament, gaming, character artist, dancing and bingo. Intro to SurveyMonkey workshop will be from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. September 27 in RM 217 Ablah Library. Learn how to create surveys, get responses, analyze results, and display results graphically using the web based tool SurveyMonkey. The “Website Creation and Management Using WordPress” workshop will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. September 20 in RM 217 Ablah Library. Quickly explore how a website is hosted, designed, and maintained within the WordPress environment. Bring any questions you may have about website creation and get them answered while working on hands-on design. No web design experience required. The “Digital Literacy Basics” workshop will explore the basic concepts comprising Digital Literacy – a framework necessary to effectively understand, use, and create with digital technologies. What is it necessary to know and what must I be able to do in order to possess the know-how required for skillful participation in digital media? Learn to use Endnote to upload citation data from library databases, create new citations in various citation styles, organize citations, and insert citations into a MS Word document. The “How do I get started in Endnote?” workshop will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 14 in Room 217 of the Ablah Library.
Discover, locate, and evaluate scholarly sources your instructors will think are awesome. The “How can I find sources my instructor will like?” workshop will be held Sept. 12 in Room 217 of the Ablah Library from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
The annual Study Abroad Fair will be held on Tuesday, September 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the RSC first floor. Come to the fair to visit over 20 different informational tables and hear about student experiences related to study abroad programs at WSU.
Mark your calendars for the Shocker Store’s first one-day-only sale of the school year! On Tuesday, September 18, the Shocker Store will have two t-shirts available for $7.00 each, while supplies last. Store opens at 8:00 a.m. and they will sell out, so hurry in that day!
